THE ECONOMY-TOURISM RELATIONSHIP SESSION WAS HELD AS PART OF THE 4TH TÜRSAB TOURISM CONGRESS
On the second day of the 4th TÜRSAB Tourism Congress, the “Economy-Tourism Relationship” session was held to assess the macroeconomic impacts of tourism—one of Türkiye's leading sectors—and its role in global financial balances.
Held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 2:15 PM, the session featured a presentation by economist Prof. Dr. Kerem Alkin on the mega-trends shaping the 21st century and global economic and political transformations.
The presentation, which covered key themes such as sustainability, hyper-digitalization, and the decisive role of mobility in tourism, addressed the potential of the emerging middle class in Asia and Africa for Turkish tourism, the growing share of luxury tourism, and Turkey’s strategic position at the global table in the “post-neoliberal” era. Alkin also highlighted the “Closed Bazaar,” “Vise Diplomacy,” and “Green Swan” scenarios looming over the global economy, emphasizing that the tourism sector must be prepared for resilience tests in this new order. The session concluded with intense interest from industry representatives.
