TÜRSAB CULTURAL TOURISM SPECIALIZATION PRESIDENCY HELD THE “WOMEN AND VALIDE SULTANS IN THE OTTOMAN ERA” INFORMATIVE TOUR
The “Informative Tour on Women and Valide Sultans in the Ottoman Empire,” organized under the TÜRSAB Cultural Tourism Specialized Directorate, was held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, along the Üsküdar–Kuzguncuk route.
The event was attended by TÜRSAB Board Member Özgür Ildır Öksüz, our Cultural Tourism Specialized Committee President Hakan Çokgezen, our Cultural Tourism Specialized Committee Vice President İlker Horozcu, and our Gastronomy Tourism Specialized Committee Vice President Sevinç Akdoğan.
The program, led by our Cultural Tourism Specialization Committee Member Mustafa Kemal Vardar, included visits to the Nevmekân Üsküdar Hanım Sultanlar Museum, the Şemsi Paşa (Kuşkonmaz) Mosque, and the Valide-i Cedid and Mihrimah Sultan complexes, where detailed information was provided on the social practices of women and valide sultans in the Ottoman Empire, as well as their contributions to society through architecture and endowment culture.
The program concluded with visits to the mosque, church, and synagogue—symbols of Kuzguncuk’s multicultural fabric—as well as Perihan Abla Street, Ekmek Teknesi, and Kuzguncuk Bostanı.
We would like to thank all our members who participated in the event.
